IJS - Internal Joint Seal is a pipeline internal  repair technology developed by Metropolitan Center For Research Sdn. Bhd.(MCR), an engineering technology orientated research company with her headquarter in Malaysia.

pipeline sewerage sewerage

IJS is a localized, no-dig repair system which rectifies the defective section of pipe and leaking pipe joint in most types of the pipe including concrete, reinforced concrete, cast iron, ductile iron, steel, vitrified clay, PVC, and HDPE.  It can be installed for pipelines with internal operating pressure up to 20 bars.

IJS is an economical, efficient, heavy duty, permanent , and easy installing mechanical sealing system specially designed for sewerage, portable water and drainage pipelines.

internal joint seal

The IJS - internal joint seal consists of a rubber seal, stainless steel expansion bands and stainless steel locking assemblies.  The rubber seal  is made of Malaysian high quality, durable rubber which are specially formulated and compounded to function within the aggressive underground pipeline conditions.

The IJS - internal joint seals are installed by expanding the a pair of stainless steel expansion bands using a portable hydraulic jack.  The installation of IJS seal does not rely on the application of chemical materials, and thereby avoiding potential chemical contamination within  the service system and health risk to the workmen.

The excellent performance of IJS in stopping pipe leak and rectifying pipe defects has been proven in many successfully implemented pipeline rectification  projects.

IJS

The IJS - Internal Joint Seals are available in four (4) widths: 500mm, 400mm, 300mm, and 200mm, and suitable for various pipe types and sizes up to 3000mm in diameter.

The stainless steel used by IJS is SS 304 with tensile and proof strengths of 520 N/sq.mm and 205 N/sq.mm respectively, and with thickness of the stainless steel ranges from 4.5mm to 9mm.

The properties of the rubber for the IJS - internal joint seal, were extensively tested and verified by the Physical Test Laboratory in the world well known Malaysian Rubber Research Institiution (currently kown as the Malaysia Rubber Board).  These verified rubber properties of the IJS - Internal Joint Seal, are equivalent or more excellent than those properties achieved by by most of the sealing rubber used for jointing various types of pipes in both water and sewerage systems.  The major properties of the rubber of the IJS - Internal Joint Seal, which were tested to the most stringent ISO and MS standards, are listed as follows:-

Density (ISO 2781) : 1.21 g/cm3 (excellent)
Hardness (ISO 48) : 70+/-5 IRHD (excellent)
Tensile Strength (ISO 37) : 19MPA (excellent)
Elongation at Break (ISO 37) : 340% (excellent)

Accelerated Air Aging (ISO 188) @ 70 degree C for 168 hours.
- Hardness Increase : 4 IRHD (below the allowable max. 5 IRHD) (excellent)
- Tensile Strength Decrease : 3% (below the allowable max. 15%) (excellent)
- Elongation At Break Decrease : -8% (below the allowable max. 20%) (excellent)

Compression Set (ISO 815) :
- 70  deg. C for 22 hours : 22% (excellent)
- 23+/- deg. C for 70 hours : 10% (excellent)
- Impact Brittleness (ISO 812) : No failure

Tear Resistance (ISO  34) :
- Trouser : 14.8 N/mm (excellent)
- Crescent : 101.1 N/mm (excellent)
- Angle, w/o nick : 34.6 N/mm (excellent)
